As we recover from the game-changing victory of Victorian Roller Derby’s All Stars at the 2017 WFTDA Championships, Pivotstar reflects on the incredible journey our sport is taking.

In the words of Rose City Rollers’ Wheels of Justice:

“As we pass the honoured torch of the WFTDA champion on to its newest victor, indulge us to include with it the greatest lesson we’ve learned as stewards of this award.

Give that torch away”.

We’ve seen this sport evolve from knee starts and pleated skirts to ESPN broadcast, high-level athleticism. We’ve seen this American-made sport grow and adapt to new leagues and new skaters around the world.

And the root of all this progress? The collective knowledge of the thousands of skaters who are willing to share their love and passion with new recruits and audiences every day.

That’s why Pivotstar UK is so excited to partner with experienced skaters to share their knowledge and skills with that global audience. In 2017 Pivotstar UK partnered with Team Scotland and Auld Reekie superstar Rosie Peacock, who is taking coaching roller derby to the next level.

Now is the time for roller derby coaches to make the move from ‘volunteer’ to ‘expert’, from ‘grass roots’ to ‘professional’, and Rosie is one of many experienced coaches who are looking to make developing our sport’s future superstars into a full-time career.

So watch out for Rosie Peacock’s Pivotstar bootcamps springing up across Europe!

And stay tuned for our next blog post to find out more about our favourite Pivot Star, Rosie Peacock!
